UGI Utilities Excess Flow Valve (EFV) Customer Notification
A recent federal regulation requires companies like UGI Utilities (UGI) to notify customers they may request the installation of a safety device, called an excess flow valve (EFV), on their underground natural gas service line.
A natural gas service line is the piping connecting a customer’s meter to the natural gas main. An EFV is a device installed as part of a service line. The EFV provides a safety benefit by reducing or stopping the flow of natural gas if a service line is broken or is damaged by a home owner or excavating contractor.
UGI currently installs EFVs on most new customer service lines, as well as on service lines replaced as part of UGI’s facility replacement and betterment program. Customers who do not have an EFV on their service line may request one. Please be aware the installation of customer-requested EFVs will be done at the customer’s expense.
